Credit Intern

1.  Why did you choose to do an internship/co-op with Sequent?
From past encounters with Sequent Employees, it was clear they were very knowledgeable and enjoyed working at Sequent.  They were excited to explain the tasks of their jobs and often went into great detail.  This made it clear to me that Sequent did a great job of training and taking care of their employees.  As a new college graduate, I felt an internship at Sequent Energy would be an exciting opportunity to learn about the energy market.

2.  How would you describe your role during your internship/co-op?
My role is in the credit department working with Compass Energy.  I establish credit limits for new counterparties and maintain credit lines previously established.

3.  What are some of the challenges you have encountered?
Working in the credit department during the economic crisis has been a challenge.  With experienced management that has been through different business cycles, I can be assured I will be guided to make the proper decisions.

4.  Has the experience been what you had hoped it would be?
Yes, my co-workers have been friendly, open and teaching me what they have learned through their own experience. I have gained experience and knowledge that cannot be attained in the classroom.

Scheduling Intern

1.  Why did you choose to do an internship/co-op with Sequent?
I decided to pursue an internship with Sequent because the company is great!  I was first exposed to Sequent during a Professional meeting hosted by Finance Association at the University of Houston.  During that meeting I learned many of the company’s qualities which showed me the benefits and experience I could gain by working for Sequent.  It wasn’t until I attended the Sequent trade floor tour that I realized this is where I would like to work.  I also knew that in order to become an exceptional natural gas trader, I would have to learn the physical side of the industry.  This internship is a win-win situation - I can work at a place I like plus gain the experience I need to help me succeed in the future.

2.  How would you describe your role during your internship/co-op?
My role during the internship at Sequent has been a well thought process where I get the necessary exposure and experience to become a successful scheduler.  I shadowed several schedulers which helped me to learn the lingo, know the pipes and grasp the basic knowledge of a natural gas scheduler.  I feel this was a vital step to help me better understand the role of a scheduler.  Everything I am learning here has a purpose.

3.  What are some of the challenges you have encountered?
I think the most difficult challenge I have encountered by working at Sequent is the industry lingo. Even though I had exposure to the industry before I joined Sequent, I didn’t fully understand what people where saying.  My co-workers were great and really worked with me so I could learn and understand the industry lingo.

4.  Has the experience been what you had hoped it would be?
This internship at Sequent has gone beyond expectation; it has been an incredible learning experience. I have grown and matured from the second I walked into the door.  My co-workers have motivated me to reach to new levels, helping me understand and learn as much of the industry as possible.
