1. Why did you choose to do an internship/co-op with Sequent?
I decided to pursue an internship with Sequent because the company is great! I was first exposed to Sequent during a Professional meeting hosted by Finance Association at the University of Houston. During that meeting I learned many of the company’s qualities which showed me the benefits and experience I could gain by working for Sequent. It wasn’t until I attended the Sequent trade floor tour that I realized this is where I would like to work. I also knew that in order to become an exceptional natural gas trader, I would have to learn the physical side of the industry. This internship is a win-win situation - I can work at a place I like plus gain the experience I need to help me succeed in the future.
2. How would you describe your role during your internship/co-op?
My role during the internship at Sequent has been a well thought process where I get the necessary exposure and experience to become a successful scheduler. I shadowed several schedulers which helped me to learn the lingo, know the pipes and grasp the basic knowledge of a natural gas scheduler. I feel this was a vital step to help me better understand the role of a scheduler. Everything I am learning here has a purpose.
3. What are some of the challenges you have encountered?
I think the most difficult challenge I have encountered by working at Sequent is the industry lingo. Even though I had exposure to the industry before I joined Sequent, I didn’t fully understand what people where saying. My co-workers were great and really worked with me so I could learn and understand the industry lingo.
4. Has the experience been what you had hoped it would be?
This internship at Sequent has gone beyond expectation; it has been an incredible learning experience. I have grown and matured from the second I walked into the door. My co-workers have motivated me to reach to new levels, helping me understand and learn as much of the industry as possible.
